What is an archetype?

Swiss psychologist Carl Jung described an archetype as "an inherited pattern of thought or symbolic imagery derived from the past collective experience and present in the individual unconscious."

Knowing our archetypes is restorative. They help us to remember and honor who we are - not who we think we should be or who others want us to be.

Caroline Moss, who is one of today's leading experts on archetypes says "Knowing your archetypal patterns is the beginning of understanding why you are who you are." These are not stereotypes. They are a more complicated look at humankind.

I have been fascinated by archetypes since I studied Jung in college. And now, so many years later I am making Mixed Media art of archetypes.
